James Andrus is a partner at K&L Gates with a focus on corporate securities/mergers and acquisitions. His practice includes a broad range of corporate finance transactions. He represents investment managers in all aspects of their businesses, including organization, capitalization, regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, investments, and mergers and acquisitions. James assists institutional investors investing in alternative investments, including hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds and special situation funds. He also represents public and private companies in mergers and acquisitions and with general corporate matters.
Before joining the firm, James practiced finance and corporate law in Houston, Texas. During that time, he represented large financial institutions in energy related project finance and structured finance transactions. | ||

Howard Coleman, a University of Washington School of Law graduate, serves as General
Counsel / Managing Director of Genesee. Mr. Coleman assists in the due diligence and manager selection process, particularly in terms of reviewing the legal and regulatory issues involved in a prospective investment manager’s strategy. Before joining Genesee in 1997, Mr. Coleman was a partner in the law firm of Riddell Williams where his practice emphasized securities litigation and other securities related issues. He is a member of Genesee’s Investment Committee. Mr. Coleman also serves on the Investment Committee of Antioch University, his alma mater. | ||

Mr. Gould practices in the Corporate & Securities area and is co-leader of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman’s Investment Funds & Investment Management Practice Team. He counsels clients involved in all aspects of the financial services industry. Mr. Gould represents U.S. registered investment companies, hedge funds, offshore investment companies, investment advisers, retail and institutional broker-dealers, and municipal bond underwriters. Mr. Gould has extensive experience in drafting private placement memoranda, partnership and limited liability company agreements, subscription agreements, registration statements, proxy statements, periodic reports, no-action letters, applications for exemptive relief and other documents for filing with the SEC, the NASD, and other regulatory agencies.
Mr. Gould advises investment companies, investment advisers and broker-dealers on mergers and acquisitions. He also provides counsel on matters involving corporate governance and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance; mortgage securitizations and sales; collateralized debt offers; joint ventures and strategic relations; and retail, institutional and offshore securities distribution strategies and regulatory considerations. Prior to joining Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, Mr. Gould served as Chief Counsel for E*TRADE Global Asset Management, Inc., Vice President with TransAmerica Life Companies, Senior Counsel to Bank of America NT&SA, and as an attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission, White & Case LLP, and two other major international law firms. | ||

Ken Miyoshi brings a global perspective to Freestone Capital Management. He previously worked for Van Hedge Fund Advisors where he managed a fund of hedge funds for European institutional investors. He has served in consulting roles, both domestically and internationally, for organizations such as Ford Financial, Mazda, and PwC Consulting. Ken holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation, and has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia, an MA from Sheffield University, and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He enjoys spending time with his family and staying active in various sports and outdoor activities.

Matt joined Bristlecone in 2000 and is the Director of Non-Traditional Investment
Manager Research. Matt specializes in nontraditional manager research (hedge funds, private equity, and real estate). Prior to Bristlecone, Matt spent two years at Windermere Investment Associates as a research analyst focusing on hedge fund managers. His previous experience also includes three years as a fixed income trader for Laughlin Stable Asset Management and two years as an equity analyst for Black & Company. Matt graduated cum laude from Oregon State University with a Bachelors of Science in Finance and he received a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Washington. Matt has earned the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation and is on the CAIA Association’s Exam Sub-Committee (assisting in the development of the CAIA exams). He is a member of the Northwest Hedge Fund Society and serves on the organization's Executive Committee. Dr. Yau is Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance at the Albers School of Business and Economics at Seattle University where he teaches investments, portfolio management, hedge funds and international financial management. Prior to joining Seattle University in 2001, he taught at George Mason University for 13 years. He also worked for Kidder, Peabody, Shearson/American Express, Dow Chemical, and Independent Research and Consulting.
He has served as the Associate Editor and has been an editorial board member of The Journal of Alternative Investments since 2001, the only U.S. journal dedicated to scholarly and applied research in alternative investments. His areas of research are hedge fund investments, microstructure of derivatives markets, international asset allocation and Chinas economy. He has published numerous articles in the scholarly and practitioner finance journals. His publications have appeared in the top journals in the following areas of specialization: derivatives, alternative investments, and practitioner-oriented investment analysis including Journal of Futures Markets, Journal of Alternative Investments, and Financial Analysts Journal. He has also published in professional publications, such as the CFA Magazine and the Handbook of Modern Finance. He co-founded and managed Strategic Options Investment Advisors Ltd., a Hong Kong-based investment advisory firm serving high net-worth individuals from 1998-2005 while he was a registered investment advisor and commodity trading advisor. He has conducted investment seminars and training courses for financial/investment practitioners. He has also developed curriculum materials for the CFA Program as well as distance-learning courses for the Open University of Hong Kong. He has served on the curriculum and exam committees of the CFA Program and CAIA Programs. He is a member of the Finance/AL Committee of GHCU, a Seattle-based credit union. Dr Yau holds a B.Soc.Sc. (Hons) degree in Management Studies and Economics from the University of Hong Kong, an MBA from the University of Toledo, and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Mr. Youngblood is a Managing Director at Aequitas Capital Management, Inc., which specializes in middle market private equity and mezzanine debt financing and is based in Lake Oswego, OR. Prior to joining Aequitas in early 2008, Mr. Youngblood was a Partner at Broadmark Asset Management, LLC, a hedge fund manager based in New York and San Francisco, managing assets in a variety of styles ranging from traditional Long/Short Equity to Macro based Equity Index Futures strategies. Mark was responsible for business development, marketing and client servicing functions while at Broadmark.
Mr. Youngblood is a board member, and the current president, of the Northwest Hedge Fund Society, as well as the founder and a board member of the Portland Alternative Investment Association. In addition to holding his series 7 and 63 NASD licenses, Mr. Youngblood is a graduate of Principia College with a B.A. in Business Administration, and is a candidate for the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation and an active member of multiple regional hedge fund associations. | ||
